Happy B-day Alton!
It’s the birthday of television host, cinematographer, actor, and cookbook author Alton Brown. He is probably best known for his work on the Food Network (Good Eats, Feasting on Asphalt and Feasting on Waves) or perhaps Welch’s Grape Juice commercials (see below). So, you may be wondering why this on-camera actor is receiving the VO Meter limelight today. Well, two reasons. First, he has made a special guest voice-over appearance on SpongeBob SquarePants (House Fancy, 2008). Could a cameo on The Simpsons be next? Second, I’m a big fan of Alton Bown’s syncopated delivery style and try to emulate it in my voice-over work. In fact, the producer of an audio book I just narrated (Financial Mistakes of New College Grads, by Joe Templin) commented during one recording session that he thought I was “channeling my inner Alton Brown!” Indeed I was… So, happy birthday Alton – here’s to good eats and good narrations, and “antioxidant power!”
