A Ghost of Dickens Present

167 years ago today the world was introduced to literature’s most famous curmudgeon: Ebenezer Scrooge. Published on December 19, 1843 by Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol soon became a universal classic that has spawned many adaptations. Whether your tradition includes curling up with the hardcover of this classic or enjoying the timeless tale with Jim Carrey, the Muppets, of Gregory Hines, I urge you to consider listening to A Christmas Carol on audio book this year. You’ll find a wide selection of narrators to choose from: Jim Dale, of Harry Potter audio book fame; Tim Curry, known for bringing Lemony Snicket’s Unfortunate Events series to life; Frank Muller, master narrator of several Clancy, King, and Grisham titles, and many more. However, I think the best choice for listening to this Dickens classic has to be the performance by British actor, Gerald Charles Dickens, the great, great grandson of Charles Dickens. What better way to experience the story of Scrooge’s Christmas transformation than from a descent of Dickens? Listen and you’ll be “as merry as a school-boy” and “as giddy as a drunken man” this holiday season!
